Welcome to the U, Samson Okunlola!
December 15, 2022

Miami capped off their 2023 offensive line recruiting on Thursday when 5-star offensive tackle
Samson Okunlola (Brockton, MA - Thayer Academy) gave his verbal commitment to the Canes.

At 6’-5”/305, Samson is rated 98, ranked the #3 offensive tackle and the #20 overall prospect in the country in the 2023 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports Composite.

With forty-five (45) scholarship offers, Samson chose Miami over Florida, Alabama, and Michigan State. Samson received an in-home visit from Miami on Tuesday afternoon after officially visiting Florida this past weekend. He will enroll in January.

Brian Dohn, national recruiting analyst for 247Sports, gave this evaluation of Okunlola.

Flexibility and ability to bend at knees stands out. Fires off low and thrusts up and into defender. Absorbs contact well. Is consistent with hand placement and sinks hips with consistency to win leverage. Is quick to shoot hands inside and has impactful initial punch. Moves feet well and quickly. Plays balanced and always keeps feet underneath him. Demonstrates high level body control. Moves well laterally and shows kick step. Can change direction and handles counters well. Ability to mirror with ease. Mixes physical play with being technically sound. Athleticism shines when pulling and when scraping and getting to second level. Spends a lot of time working on technique away from practice. Is patient in pass pro and difficult to beat around edge because of laterally movement and length. Rarely gets caught bending at waist. Is not challenged snap-to-snap and easily dominates competition. Has to continue to work on staying engaged on run blocks while driving defender back. Has to continue to refine technique. Multi-year starter at elite level program. Has first-round NFL draft potential.

Okunlola’s commitment arguably gives Miami the top offensive line class in the nation. He joins 5-star OT Francis Mauigoa, IOL Antonio Tripp, IOL  Tommy Kinsler and OT Frankie Tinilau.

With Okunlola’s pledge, Miami’s 2023 recruiting class has 24 verbal commitments and is ranked #3 in the nation.
