Welcome to the U, Rueben Bain!
December 13, 2022
Hurricane Bain made landfall in Miami on Tuesday evening, when 4-star Edge Rueben “Hurricane” Bain (Miami, FL - Miami Central) committed to the Canes!
It is a big win for the Canes, as Mario Cristobal & Co. won a major recruiting battle to keep this blue chip talent home.
At 6’-2”/250, Rueben is rated 96, ranked the #9 Edge and #70 overall prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports Composite. He becomes’s the Canes’ 23rd verbal commitment in a class now ranked #5 in the country.
Here’s what 247Sports’ analyst Andrew Ivins had to say about Rueben…
A highly productive pass rusher that wins not only with technique, but also one of the best motors in the class of 2023. Not the biggest point-of-attack player, but it doesn’t matter because he shoots into the backfield with a game plan and is extremely effective at simply just putting pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
Ability to plant, redirect and make stops outside of the hashes is extremely rare for someone his age as he’s quick to read and react. Has been deployed primarily as an edge player throughout much of his prep career, but has also gotten some looks on the inside and shown that he can make a difference in the middle with his heavy hands and overall physical demeanor.
Tweener measurables won’t be for everyone, but the ability to consistently flush out pockets is extremely valuable in an era where everyone wants to air it out.
In his junior campaign, Rueben racked up 60 tackles (48.5 of which were for a loss), 29.5 sacks and three forced fumbles. Over the last two seasons, Rueben has registered 50 sacks, using a combination of speed and power.
Rueben chose Miami over FSU, Auburn, and Alabama, among his 27 scholarship offers.
Welcome to the U, Rueben! Welcome to the family!
