Welcome to the U,
Lance Guidry!

Miami head coach
Mario Cristobal
wasted little time in selecting his new defensive coordinator. After former DC Kevin Steele announced his departure from Miami to accept the same position at Alabama on Sunday night, Cristobal went right after the man at the top of his list of potential candidates.

Coach Guidry, 51, is a veteran college coach with 19 years of college coaching experience. He comes to Miami from Marshall ,where he was the defensive coordinator for the Thundering Herd in 2021-22. Guidry had just been announced as Tulane’s new defensive coordinator only hours before getting the call from Cristobal.

Guidry brings a proven record of outstanding results at multiple schools, including McNeese State, Miami (OH), Western Kentucky, Southeastern Louisiana, Florida Atlantic, and Marshall. He has eight years as a defensive coordinator at Western Kentucky, McNeese State, Southeastern Louisiana and Marshall. Guidry has also served as a head coach for three years at McNeese State (22-13 record).

As defensive coordinator at Marshall in 2022, Guidry’s defense ranked in the Top 10 nationally in 12 different major defensive categories, including 10th in total defense.

2022 Marshall Defense National Ranking:
1st - 3rd down Defense
2nd - Def. Stop rate
4th - Efficiency Defense
5th - Turnovers gained
6th - Pass Eff Defense
6th - Rushing Defense
7th - Scoring Def.
7th - Yards per play
9th - Sacks
9th - Interceptions
10th - 1st down Defense
10th - Total Defense

Results matter!

Guidry’s defenses are known for their tough, physical, attacking style. He uses an aggressive and creative defensive scheme, mixing up his looks using the same personnel sets. He runs a base 4-2-5 with two tackles down and two stand up ends. He primarily runs with five defensive backs, with a linebacker substituting for a DB in certain situations. He often leans to putting seven in the box.

Welcome to the U, Lance Guidry! Welcome to the family!
