Welcome Home, Tim Harris, Jr.!
February 21, 2023

On Tuesday, Miami hired UCF co-offensive coordinator and assistant head coach
Tim Harris, Jr.
as running backs coach.

Coach Harris is a Miami alum and former Hurricane track star. He comes back to Miami from Central Florida (UCF), replacing Kevin Smith, who departed to Ole Miss last month.

In 2022, Harris played a major role in UCF’s rushing attack that ranked ninth in the country at 228 yards per game. The Knights rushed for 200 + yards in nine games. In 2021, UCF averaged 196.0 rushing yards per game, ranking #28 in the country.

Coach Harris served as running backs coach at Florida International from 2015 to 2020. In 2021, Harris was promoted to offensive coordinator before joining UCF’s staff.

In 2014, Harris served as head coach at Booker T. Washington High School before jining the star at FIU. Coach Harris was named the 2014 Florida Dairy Farmers Football Coach of the Year, the 2014 Miami Dolphins George Smith South Florida High School Football Coach of the Year, the 2014 NIKE Football State Coach of the Year and a finalist for the 2014 U.S. Army All-American National Coach of the Year.

In 2022, the Canes’s running backs were riddled with injuries. As a result, Miami rushed for only 128 yards per game (#96 nationally.) Coach Harris will attempt to re-establish a power running attack for the Canes.

Welcome Home, coach Harris!
