December 20, 2022
The #22 Miami Hurricanes upset the #6 Virginia Cavaliers, 66-64 on Tuesday evening at the Watsco Center.
The game marked the first time in almost two years that two ranked ACC teams met in a head-to-head matchup.
Miami controlled most of the game, leading 36-26 at the half and continued to hold a 10-point lead with only 65 seconds on the clock. But the Cavs rallied and surged to the finish, stopping the hearts of Canes' fans. The game came down to a final drive to the basket by the Cavs. It failed to fall, and Miami (12-1, 3-0 ACC) won its eighth straight game and remains undefeated in ACC play. The Miami win also snapped a six-game losing streak to the Cavaliers.
Miami was led by Isaiah Wong with 24 points. Jordan Miller tossed in 11 points, while both Norchad Omier and Nijel Pack contributed 10 points apiece for the Canes.
The Canes shot 39.6 percent (21 of 53) from the floor, 31.8 percent (7 of 22) from 3-point range. Virginia (8-2, 1-1) shot 36.7 percent (22 of 60) and 26.1 percent (6 of 23) from beyond the arc.
Miami hosts Vermont next on Wednesday, December 28th.
