Miami routs Louisville, 80-53
December 4, 2022
The Canes are off to their bast start since 2017. Miami (8-1, 1-0 ACC) traveled to Louisville on Sunday and routed the Cardinals 80-53.
Miami’s 27-point margin of victory was its largest of the season
Louisville (0-8, 0-1 ACC) came out hot, quickly built an early 5-2 advantage. The Canes then went on runs of 10-0 and 9-0 to take control of the game. Miami made 14 of its first 19 shots on the way to a 42-23 lead at the break.
In the second half, Miami put the nail in the Cardinals' coffin with a 19-4 run to end any speculation of a Louisville comeback. At 10:22 remaining, the Canes led by 32 points.
Miami shot 50.0 percent (32-of-64) while the Cardinals hit just 29.8 percent (17-of-58).
Miami used a balanced attack and had a 30-15 advantage in points off the bench. The Canes used eleven players who scored at least three points. Miami was led by senior guard Jordan Miller, who scored a game-high 14 points. Sophomore forward Norchad Omier had 12 points and fourth-year junior guard Isaiah Wong added 10 points.
“On offense, we were able to really execute and get kind of a commanding 19-point lead at the half,” said Miami head coach Jim Larranaga. “What was even better and more impressive is we were able to extend from 19 to [over] 30 in the second half. It gave us an opportunity to sub freely and keep everybody fresh. Our guys did a great job from start to finish today.”
Miami returns home to host Cornell in a midweek non-conference contest on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. TV coverage will be RSN.
GO Canes!
