Miami powers past Indiana State, 9-3
February 22, 2023
The Miami Hurricanes continued to unload the lumber on Wednesday, blasting another four homers to defeat Indiana State, 9-3, at Light Field.
Miami (4-1) has won fourth straight games since an opening day loss.
Miami has hit 15 home runs in their first five games. Leading the Canes’ attack was true freshman 2B Blake Cyr, hitting two home runs and driving in five runs. After trailing 1-0 in the second inning, Cyr blasted a three-run homer to left-center field for a 3-1 lead. Cyr went 2-4 against the Sycamores on Wednesday. He is hitting .500 and with a double, three home runs and nine RBIs. Nice start to his Miami career.
In the third inning, Miami increased their lead to 6-1 after Edgardo Villegas and Yohandy Morales hit their second and third home runs of the season, respectively. Morales is 5 for 8 with three home runs and seven RBIs in his last two games.
The Canes never looked back.
Miami starter Ben Chestnutt (1-0) turned in a very solid pitching performance, going five innings, allowing only one run on two hits, while striking out seven and walking two.
Next up for Miami is Dartmouth for a three game series starting on Friday. First pitch is at 7:00 p.m. ET. Coverage will be provided on ACCNX.
GO Canes!
