April 22, 2022
The Hurricanes landed their sixth defensive transfer since the arrival of Mario Cristobal and staff. Middle linebacker Caleb Johnson announced his selection of Miami over Texas on Friday evening.
At 6’1”/230, Caleb brings significant game experience and production to Miami’s linebacker room, a source of great need entering the 2022 season for the Canes.
After a one year at JUCO Fullerton College, he joined Chip Kelly at UCLA. During his two years with the Bruins, Caleb played in 18 games with 17 starts. He totaled 89 tackles, seven tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, and a pair of interceptions. After his 2020 season, Caleb was named honorable mention All-Pac-12.
Caleb joins former UCLA teammate WDE Mitchell Agude, West Virginia defensive lineman Akheem Mesidor, USC defensive lineman Jake Lichtenstein, UAB defensive lineman Antonio Moultrie, and West Virginia cornerback Daryl Porter on a rebuilt Miami defense.
Johnson is also the 10th overall transfer for head coach Cristobal and staff since his arrival in Coral Gables.
Welcome to the U, Caleb! Welcome to the family!
