Miami falls late to Pitt, 71-68
January 28, 2023
The Hurricanes could not hold a double digit lead, falling to the Pitt Panthers 71-68 on the road Saturday afternoon.
Miami (16-5, 7-4 ACC) held a double-digit lead early in the second half. With 2:26 left to go, the Canes went cold, blowing an eight point lead as Pittsburgh (15-7, 8-3 ACC) went on an 11-0 run to end the game. During that stretch, Miami missed their final three shots and turned the ball over three times. The loss was almost a carbon copy of Miami’s losses at NC State (83-81) and Duke (68-66) during Miami last ACC match ups.
Miami suffered through scoring droughts throughout the game, despite shooting 49.1 percent (26 of 53) from the floor. The Canes were led by forward Jordan Miller with 18 points. Miller scored 14 points in the first half. Isaiah Wong tossed in 14 points and Norched Omier contributed 11 points and nine rebounds. Unfortunately, Omier’s double-double streak ended,.
Blake Hinson led Pitt with 21 points. Jamarius Burton contributed a double-double with 19 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and three steals.
The Canes return home to host Virginia Tech on Tuesday. Tip-off will be at 7:00 p.m. ET, with coverage on ESPNU.
GO Canes!
