ESPN withdraws from Big 10 rights negotiations
August 10, 2022
On Tuesday, ESPN withdrew from negotiations on the upcoming Big10 conference media rights agreement.
That means after 2023, ESPN will no longer broadcast Big10 games. ESPN rejected the Big Ten's final offer of a seven-year, $380 million agreement. It ends a long partnership with ESPN dating back to the early 1980s.
Fox will remain the Big Ten's primary media partner, but it is expected CBS and NBC will sign a new media rights agreement with the conference as additional broadcast partners.
The next question is where does that leave ESPN in the college football landscape? ESPN has a media rights agreement with the SEC and the ACC. The PAC 12 and the Big 12 have begun negotiations on new media rights deals.
More to come, we are sure.
