DC Kevin Steele leaving…
February 6, 2023

According to multiple reports on Sunday, Miami defensive
coordinator Kevin Steele will be leaving Miami to assume the same position at Alabama.

Coach Steele’s tenure at Miami lasted only one year. In 2022, Miami’s defense ranked ninth in the ACC in total defense, including allowing at least 40 points in five of the final nine games. The Hurricanes defense struggled all season, finishing 13th in the ACC with 5.9 yards allowed per play.

Steele, a 39-year coaching veteran, has been a head coach at Baylor and a defensive coordinator at Auburn, LSU, Clemson and Alabama.  He returns to Tuscaloosa for the third time, serving previously as the defensive coordinator (2007-2008), director of player personnel (2013) and linebackers coach (2014).

With spring practice less than a month away, Miami head coach Mario Cristobal must now replace both of his coordinators and the quarterback coach. Rumors are already floating around on a number of candidates.
