College Football Playoffs to expand
September 2, 2022
The College Football Playoff's board of managers voted Friday to expand the playoffs in 2026 from the current 4 schools to 12 schools. The board also recommended the conference commissioners implement the change as soon as 2024.
The eleven (11) presidents and chancellors making up the CFP board, approved a 12-school model, which includes the six highest-ranked conference champions and six at-large school.
The 10 FBS commissioners and Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick will meet next week in Dallas to finalize the details.
How this monumental change affect the realignment of conferences is unknown. Will the Big10 and SEC continue to expand? Will the ACC, Big12 and Pac12 survive?
One thing is certain, more change is on the way.
