

Canes take series behind pitching gem

Miami beat #19 NC State, 8-1, on Saturday evening at Alex Rodriguez Stadium before 3,193 fans. The win secured the weekend series against their first ACC opponent this season.
The top story line of the game was Miami sophomore starting pitcher Gage Ziehl turning in a pitching masterpiece. He went eight innings, giving up one unearned run, allowing only three hits, one walk, while striking out eight. It was Ziehl’s longest outing of his Miami career.
Carlos Lequerica closed out the game for the Canes in the ninth inning to deal NC State (13-2, 0-2 ACC) only their second loss of the season. Both losses have been to Miami (10-5, 2-0 ACC).
Miami’s attack was led again by Ian Farrow who blasted a two-run homer. CJ Kayfus contributed three hits and two RBIs and Yohandy Morales drove in two runs for the Canes.
Miami goes for the series sweep on Sunday with right-hander Alejandro Rosario on the mound. First pitch is at 1:00 p.m. ET. Coverage will be on ACCNX.
